I have come upon a few bamboo rods, that are in good shape overall. The eyelets are slightly rusted and I am wondering if there are any good ideas that i could use to clean them up w/out replacing them. I am afraid that any aggressive cleaning will break them.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't know how bad it is. If its just a little surface layer, you might be able to rub it off with oil (gun oil or even wd40 might work). You will have to apply a little pressure. If its badly rusted, well, rust doesn't "grow" on metal, rather the metal turns to rust, so even if you could get it off you won't have much metal left.

I'm sure there is going to rough edges left too. These will slice right through your line.

Now if it's a show peice, that's a different story.

Replace them, never use a guide with rust. No matter how good you are there will be pits, and nicks to cut your line and also slow down the cast.

Try some 0000 steel wool. Take your time, if the snake guides are blued you can re-blue then on the rod just take your time.
