Can anyone tell me of a substitute for "Light Badger" hackle used to tie a White Wulff? I'm having difficulty finding light badger locally. I normally don't like to purchase hackle online. I usually like to see the hackle before buying.

barred. striations imply movement. movement implies life. you certainly have grizzly. use that.

Plain ol' white will certainly work. If you want sort of faux badger look, wind a black ostrich herl through the hackle.

Or you could take a cream or very light ginger hackle and run a black marker up the center to produce the width of "badger" stripe you want to end up with.

Fly patterns are made to be messed with, jury rigged and re-imagined like a pizza with 50 potential toppings to choose from. For me at least, this is a good part of the satisfaction I get from tying.

Hey,

Thanks to all who responded. I plan on trying all of the above and see what happens.
