Schools out for me. I knew as of 8:30 yesterday morning, and then we only got about 2 inches, which is all cleared up now.
I tie 3 cased caddis patterns:
1st (and easiest) - straight shanked hook. .35 lead wire for weight, one piece tied paralel to the shank. At the eye, I tie in olive micro chennelle burn at the end, and black hackle for legs. I take the thread back to the bend and tie in a clump of turkey tail and wind it forward. I then coat the turkey with clear fingernail polish.
2nd - The first week in May, I go to the stream with a ziplock bag and collect the sheded stick caddis cases. I spray them with craft bond and let them dry for a day. Using a streamer hook with comparable size to the case and wrap with lead wire. Using cheap dubbing I build up the body just big enough to slide the case over tightly. Then I elmers or super glue the dubbing and slide the case over. Once dry, I tie a creamish body and legs, like the caddis is tring to grab ahold of something.
3rd - Similar to #2, but use those little stone cases and smaller hooks -- obviously.
Of course if you don't want for the caddis to shed their cases, you can take a small stick and poke the caddis from the bottom of the case out the top.
