I bought a dun Whiting quarter saddle for the first time, and the quality and value is impressive. The coolest thing is that the quarter saddles are available in #14 and smaller. I don't tie dun hackled flies smaller than 14, so there's no waste.

I've also upgraded my crappy starter kit vise with a Renzetti ped base Traveler. A nice vise is an unnecessary luxury, but tying is much more fun when the vise doesn't let go of the hook in the middle of a tie. Also, the rotary function lets me tie in ribbing, dubbing and hackling much more neatly. I doubt I'll catch more fish, but I like having neat flies.

I've been a big fan of Whiting hackles for a while. I love the quarter saddles.

cool, I have a few whiting quarters they are great quality it makes tying that much better, I also use metz, I've found these to be good too, I recently splurged on a regal pedestal vise its a real pleasure to use and I agree it makes tying a much more enjoyable venture.

Now all we need to do is get away from our benches and strat using the flies we've tied :)
