Well, I decided to give a real full-dress salmon fly a try, so I sat down to attempt a Jock Scott, just to realize I had no suitable substitutes for the underwing or the bustard, so here it sits...opinions? Take the razor to it or try to find the wing materials?

I know nothing about those types of flies, but a fly can be very unique and still work well. Finish it the way you'd like to see it and move on.

You can build any kind of wing you want. Marry some different colored slips of goose shoulder or something similar. Make it your own. A Jock Scott is a tough pattern and Bustard is very hard to come by.

Maybe some black mallard wings????? Im new to fly tying so I am not sure what a "proper" salmon fly looks like. I saw the fly and just visioned the wings being mallard...IMO

European Blue Jay!!!!
