cutting a dry fly neck in half

My friend and I just purchased a quality medium dun dry fly neck
we wanted to cut it in half
what is the best way to go about this

ex. a very sharp razor ???

Yes cut it from the back"skin side" carefully as to not cut any feathers.

Try to get a good crease in it so the feathers separate and cut along that line, like Gc said from the back.

Cut it side to side, you keep the little ones and give your buddy the big ones.

I've done it many times. Razor knife works best - cutting from the back, as mentioned above

lv3Nymph........good advice to get a good crease/fold in it before you cut with a utility knife (fresh blade) A bench vise and an easy squeeze with a rag or newspaper between the neck and vise can be helpful. Some hackle suppliers sell half necks but spliyying one with a friend is easier on the wallet and you get more bang for yer $.
