Bad Hair Day

This morning my seven year old son developed his first fly. It was fun watching him sort through my materials picking out what he wanted, then helping him tie it on. He named the fly "Bad Hair Day". I don't know if it will catch fish or even how to fish it, but the memory of his face as he put it together will last a lifetime. This is what it's all about.

Take him to a sunfish pond and give it a whirl. They'll eat it for sure your son's chest will swell with pride.

Have him tie another frame the first one and mount a picture of him and a fish caught with the second one..

I agree with Jack. Grease it and skate it across a calm pool. I don't have a good cranefly pattern, and that would do just as well as anything I've used.
