Virginia Earth quake just last year freaked out a lot of people and was way stronger. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Virginia_earthquake

I will be the lone wolf on this Ohio frack earth quake theory. Likewise that Fracking permanently ruins well waters. Not to say that it temporarily occurs in some failed casings. The first hydraulic frack occurred on March 17, 1949 in Oklahoma. By 1988, it has been successfully completed over a million times.

Scary stuff huh?

This isn't directly from fracking its a frack fluid waste dump site. Its an injection well where they dispose of used frack fluid and oil waste. According to the article (or the version our paper this morning) they believe they injected this waste into a previously unknown underground fault.

Virginia really has nothing to do with this discussion other than they had a quake too. Might as well include Japan on that basis.

I'm not buying the "probably". Probably was from fracking or probably from a natural process called plate techtonics. We'll just have to sit back and wait for a few more to hit, now won't we. I referenced the Virginia earthquake because it surprised many people on the East coast. As I'm sure the techtonic activity did the Youngstown area. The depth of the Virginia quake was 4 miles where the Youngstown was at 1 which sets the mind thought that injecting waste water is "probably" the cause of the quake. I want to hear "definitely" is the cause. So, I want to hear true facts and will await the further quakes to come.

whether it's from the injection well or not, I don't think it's wise to inject our waste crap anywhere near fault lines. yeah, it's a mile down, but I just have a bad feeling that it's gonna find it's way to the surface through the cracks in the fault.
RECYCLE THE CRAP!! this is the 21st century, the technology has to be there.

Midgeman, you're never going to get definitely. There's just no way to tell for sure. There was a fault, it slipped. It's a given that there was stress on the fault quite naturally, or else it wouldn't have slipped. But yeah, it's very possible the injection well added the lubrication which served as the trigger. I'm not sure how you could tell such a thing.

Biker, I agree with you on avoiding faults. But so does everyone else. Minor faults aren't real well mapped, and it's difficult and expensive to map them.

They do recycle most of it now, I believe.

We had two earthquakes here in the northwest part of the state last year. One was petty noticeable.
