I find fishing with a flies, nymphs, wooley bugger, etc. under jack dams with strong hydraulic currents difficult. It's nearley impossible for me to notice a bite. Will trout hold artificials for a while before spitting out. Any suggestions are welcomed.

If the water is moving fast you don't have to worry about feeling a take. The fly is moving too fast and many fish cannot regect it. The fly and line with come to a sudden stop and a fish will take off.

If the water is too fast it might not fold fish.

Try throwing a floating fly just at the edge of the foam , they only have a second to decide so if they like it look out!!!
