Purchased a new rod and reel a bunch of months back and fished it for most of the year. This weekend I took my longer stick out for the first time in awhile as I was fishing larger water. Reel was really performing poorly and I think I need to clean it out .. which I never have done. Few questions for both reels I have ..

How often do you guys do that?

How do you do it?

If u need to re-lube it what do u gents recommend?

Any other info I need would be appreciated

Thanks in advance

Toothbrush, dishsoap, K-Y.

Jack, u just freaked the shinola out of me .... u sound like my wife tho dishsoap 1st and toothbrush 2nd!

Rinse well and maybe take a toothbrush to it. Check info on your reel. Most decent reels rarely, if ever, need any lubricant.

Open it up and clean?

Clean your fly line in warm water and just a drop of dish soap. Probably don't need to get crazy with the reel.

Everything you ever needed to know (and more) about cleaning and lubing a fly reel.
