This guy way lucky I caught him. He had a large bait hook with 3 inches of line down his esophagus that I got out.

I'm no expert But the coloring I'm seeing is very similar to that of a blue gill. With that said it could be a pumpkinseed Lepomis gibbosus as well. The next time I catch one I'll photo ID it and do more research. I guess after all they deserve their 15 minutes of fame as well. Additionally, the water is calm in the area they were caught and I'm not sure that blue gill are strictly a lake habitat chordate!
