Fished the Yough in the Ramcat rapid area.

Fished from 3pm to 950pm. Water was pretty clear and low. As low as it has been all year. Water temp was mid-50's.

During the late afternoon 2 rain showers put a damper on fishing for about 20 minutes a piece. The rain had no effect on the water flow or clarity.

Saw a decent amount of tan to darker caddis as well as a few sulphers, orange craneflies and ginger midges.

Managed a couple of smallish rainbows on a BHPT size 16.

I did not see one riser all day until 9pm. I managed 2 decent sized rainbows, missed that many as well- on Rusty spinners. It was fun to finish off the day with a flurry of activity.

IMO- the Yough is the best to fish when the flows are low and during the lowest light periods of the day (or dark). It can be a challenge to do this since it means walking or in my case riding your bike for a while in the dark.

Also IMO- this is a river you can fish for decade and can be continuously surprised. The radical changes in flow and temperature make this a headscratcher to me.

I flyfish because I enjoy it.
