Is that really center-pin gear in the photo??

It sounds like fun, but not as challenging as 'fly fishing'. Personally there is nothing more I enjoy than a day out on the water, fly fishing and catching nothing,

Monday looks like good weather, so I will try to hit either Valley or Little Lehigh below the fly shop....

Thanks mute. I'm heading up there today should be there around 10. Anything by the tree of all at the bridge? I know it can get tight there.

Fish today for a couple hours but only in one small area. There were some other people above me and some guy passed me decked out with spin fishing gear so I figured I'd just be patient and fish over a couple fish I knew where there. Beautiful day, water a little lower and more clear than last weekend. Caught a couple on top when the BWO started coming off. Does anyone else have a really hard time seeing fish in this stream? They seem to blend in better than in most other streams.

RHS,

I have noticed that as well. The only place I consistently spot fish is under the turnpike bridge. Wild trout are tough like that. I have found that on Valley, if you are close enough to see them, that you probably got too close to catch them anyway.

Skiltonian:

Are telling us all those fish are VC trout? I am highly skeptical. The color is nothiing like anything I have ever seen in Valley, and I have been fishing it for a very very long time. I am not calling you out, but I remain unconvinced. Maybe West Valley. Actually, first two pics look like the same fish, with the torn up tail - - not to mention a bit of blood.

I was afraid to say the same thing. They don't have the color of the fish I've caught.

Tom,

Not stocked in a VERY long time.

From the VC trustee council:

"The Council was established under the "Superfund" Law when Valley Creek was contaminated in the mid-1980's by polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB's), a well-known carcinogen. Contamination by PCB's resulted in the cessation of trout stocking, designation of Valley Creek as a "catch-and-release" fishery, and issuance of a health advisory regarding trout consumption ultimately leading to a significant loss of angler use as well as direct damages to natural resources. Monies to compensate for natural resource damages and lost angler use were received through legal settlements with the responsible parties and placed into a Restoration Fund administered by the Valley Creek Trustee Council."

That's interesting...I guess that means you shouldn't wade?

Nah, wading is pretty safe. It's mainly a concern with the pcbs remaining in the flesh of the fish. They are no longer edible, so it isn't stocked. Therefore, there is an absolutely great wild trout stream right near philly. It is, however, a tough nut to crack.

I'll do some research on wading in pcb contaminated water when I get a chance.
