Why do you have to judge, if an insect wants to live its life in such a manner, its not your call.

Oh, wait.

Flies...right.

There was a time when that wasn't a dirty word, and I'd be proud to accept all of what it meant.

Of course, I was kidding...

There was a time when we all weren't so divided. I think it was just before the 24/7 news channels....

Damn Flyswatter. You must be an awesome fly fisherman. You seem like you've got it all down pat. I wish I had your exact perspective on fly fishing. Then maybe I could be as judgemental towards others as you....
Who gives an "f" what tippet size other people are fishing. That's great that you can identify bugs on the water. Your comments come off to be pompous "second nature to us" referring to inexperienced anglers as "they" Your attitude demonstrates just how inexperienced you are no matter how many hatches you've observed or trout you have caught.

Fred,
You just can't see the 8x to tie the fly on. Don't be a hater!

Flyswatter's post was informative and enjoyable IMO. As a beginner, I'd be grateful for his candid approach to sharing important tips and info. And he's absolutely right. Light tippets are totally unnecessary in most situations. IMO, it's one of the biggest misconceptions that FFers tend to make.

Don't look at me, I use Danville's spider thread for tippet...I find that the 30 denier count really gives me smooth, drag free drifts and lets me extend the fight for maximum pleasure.

The fish don't seem to mind, either. At the end, its like they just flop into my hand excited to see who so effortlessly played them, and when I'm done, they always want to hang around in the eddies beneath my feet to see me bring in their buds.

Well, my response seems civilized now, doesn't it? Thanks, Colin.

Finny......you have you ever been around the Little Lehigh? If not if you'd like fish it I'd glady show you around if you promise to never go below 6x.

Btw for those that were wondering we got bored at the fly shop one day and found out that you can thread 0x orvis super strong through a size 24 orvis trico!

Next year I'm going to tape myself catching a fish in the Heritage section with a size 24 trico and 0x

Ive made the mistake of using 7x when nymping, I was a rookie at the time. Sometimes I get a stupid streak and think I need it, usually Im on the LL and that water is gin clear. Everytime I do, I catch and lose a big fish. I have vowed to never use it again, only for trico and midge dryfly fishing. 6X is a all you ever need and most times, thats over kill.

When do you start? You up there tomorrow? I'm being hauled along to see my brother's band playing in the street up there, maybe I'll stop in?
