Fished LJ for my first time on saturday near Spruce. Didn't get anything for the first four hours then decided to go into Spruce Creek Outfitters to see if I could get some advice. The gentleman in there was very helpful and pointed me in the right direction. Managed to get 4-5 on small nymphs before leaving around 1:30 with the largest being around 16". SCO will definately get more business from me next time I make it out that way.

I didn't. I heard another guy say mid 60s. I quit fishing around noon due to the heat.

in addition to the help you received, many may know, others not, that Alan took on the Donnie Beaver Machine to keep the J open downstream of the shop. That action made it less profitable for Beaver and others to claim other sections of the stream for their own- if it's not exclusive, why pay big money to fish it?

Yes, Alan is the man. Also takes donations in there for the church so fisherman can keep parking at the church, will give you good solid info on the phone before you drive 3.5 hours like i do, etc. I always spend some $$ in there when i make it out that way

Yes, for the J, fishing in the morning is the way to go on hot days. In addition to Alan, Bill Anderson, along with fellow members of the Little Juniata River Association, has worked to keep the stream in good shape and accessible.

Nice report, and I can vouch for Alan and anyone else who has ever helped me at spruce creek outfitters. Man, that water is very low in that spot. I was there last in mid July and temps were pushing 72 in that location. We left to leave me rest.

I'll add that people only know a portion of what the LJRA does. The good will built by their actions and some occasional behind the scenes conflict resolution, keep private water open that might be posted by now. It goes well beyond the miles of fishing easement they secured on the lower river.
A great way to show your appreciation is by participating in the cleanups (one coming up in october) and restoration projections.
People at events contribute towards matching funds for special projects
