I hit the lower Letort yesterday for a few hours in the afternoon. It was cloudy when I started with air temps in the 70s. Only sporadic risers to minutia and/or terrestrials. Didn't notice any hatches. I picked up a couple small fish right off the bat on a yellow caddis larva. The action slowed. I went for about 45 mins without even a flash at my fly, then it started lightly raining. As soon as the rain started to hit the water, the fish went nuts. I was getting hits left and right. I had a really nice fish slam a nymph I was swinging in a tailout, but not hook itself. It continued to tail walk across the water for a few feet even after the hook came flying out. Another small brown went air born after a swung nymph and continuously jumped until I landed it. It must have jumped 10 times in about 20 seconds! It was nice to get out in some cool August weather, and I really enjoyed the rain action. Landed somewhere around 10 fish, give or take a few dozen. The cool air and drizzle got me excited for the fall streamer bite. Bring on the bruisers!

"Ours is the grandest sport. It is an intriguing battle of wits between an angler and a trout; and in addition to appreciating the tradition and grace of the game, we play it in the magnificent out-of-doors."
~ Ernest G. Schwiebert, Jr.
