I was fortunate enough to spend the past week up on cape cod with my girlfriend and the pup. We had a lot planned for the week, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't psyched to get in some striper fishing.

The first three days brought fog and sporadic thunderstorms. These storms came through in a heartbeat, and I had to keep close to the car.

That same foggy morning, a woman holding a baby snuck up behind me in the fog. My mid-cast reaction was less than graceful...

Snapper blues were out in force, but finding bass was proving tough as usual for this time of year. The fish are around, but they're far less predictable than in early summer. By Wednesday morning, I had one schoolie on the board.

Later that day, we saw some of these...

and took in some scenery.

By Thursday, the skies were clear and a cold front was moving in, making things even tougher. I took a hard skunking that morning, but some fantastic seafood made up for it.

Low tide on the bay is always a cool sight...

Even found some trails to explore...

Friday was the coldest day of the week. A last minute decision, I called a guide earlier in the week to book a wading trip. I figured it would be the best way to learn some things about the local water...not to mention a better chance to get on some fish.

We fished the big inlet on Friday's outgoing, evening tide. It was a fishy spot with current and some giant boulders...almost like fishing a big river. However, the fish seemed to have a case of lockjaw thanks to the front. Swinging sand eels, I had to put in some work, but eventually it paid off...

An hour or so later, I got lucky again.

Nothing huge this trip, but these fish always get my blood flowing. Now here's to the fall run around these parts!

Does she fish? And if not, at what point in the planning process did you tell her that you were packing your 8 wt?

Awesome report Jay. Looks like a nice vacay in addition to some good fishing. I'm definetly jealous of those linesiders...i guess i'll have to go out and get some of my own soon.
