Nick and I just spent two days on the Manatawny and Tulpehocken Creeks guiding. Size 16 CDC Sulphur was the hot fly. Lots of fishermen on both creeks. Could not fish the Manny Saturday due to off color water from the thunderstorms Friday night. Largest fish caught was a 14 inch brown. We had a great time with this husband and wife who were fly fishing for trout for the first time. We found rising fish on the Tully all day...photos on my Facebook page.

Rick,

Can you believe that yesterday, 5/5 at around 10:00 AM I found ELEVEN people fly fishing and one guy spin fishing between the bridges on Spots Mill Road? What is that, 8/10ths of a mile maybe? And as you know there was about 6" of water visibility. No bugs, no risers. Threw meat for a few minutes and receded to a Berks spring limestoner.

Funny, we fished Friday and Saturday on the Tully and where we fished we did not see another fishermen when we were fishing. But then we walked far. And we had rising fish the whole time...

Ya I was fishing the slow water trying to get a monster brookie that spit my fly right at the net. Its fishing good this year better than last year in my opinion.

I agree 100 percent that the Tully is fishing great this year. Lots of rising fish. I took a guy I work with out the morning after guiding on the Tully and helped him to catch his first trout on a fly rod. He bought his spinning rod and threw hardware for about 20 minutes but when he realized that the fish wanted nothing to do with his offerings he switched over to the fly rod. He is already looking at buying a fly rod setup as well as waders and boots. He's hooked just like that! I now have another fishing partner as well. Good stuff!

I have only caught trout in teh winter. (20 years ago). But I really only fished it in teh winter because of easy access.

You can get trout this time of year. There are smallmouth bass...not many of any size.

I enjoy the Tully in the winter. Maybe my favorite time of the year to hit it.

It isn't to cold for them?

Are they there all winter and any other WW fish?

I ask b/ if I'm going to get skunked for trout but catch some others, still a good day for me.
