CCAS was out in force on Spring Creek this weekend. Fishing was a little slow due to low summer flows. Early morning hatches of tricos were still strong and sporadic tan caddis and crane flies during the mid day had some trout rising. When fish weren't rising to dries we worked it out with a host of nymphs and some streamers on lower Spring near the confluence with Bald Eagle Creek. Hot nymphs were green caddis pupa (#18) and midge pupas (black #20). Bighorn Buggers were taking some fish on streamers as well.

I thought the stream was fishing really well and by no means slow.
Should have stuck with Walts worms and maybe some green weenies.

You'll have to accuse my friend, anything less than 50 fish days on Spring Creek, typical in April, are "slow" to him!....:)

It's all good, it was an average August outing on Spring - the lower end of the Creek fished head and shoulders better than the upper and is where I would suggest focusing attention. They really did a great job on the project water below Bellefonte.

Yes, we did catch a couple of rainbows. The ones from the lower end were pretty much standard stockies, I suspect came up in from BE.

Pretty sure it's an Abel reel.

Yes, it's an Abel Super 5 I believe with the Brook Trout finish. Pete has so many though I can't be sure. I have one as well that I like to fish with when I know it is going to be a "light" day with low scratch potential...

They work about as well as all of the other major branded ones i own - they look cool though... Pricey
