Salmon River, NY 12-16 & 12-17

CCAS was out on steelhead water this past weekend! We spent a couple days in the Pulaski, NY area and got into some nice fishing. The northern NY weather was typical for this time of year – we dealt with some cold air temperatures on Saturday. With the increase in flows on the Salmon River we managed to get a float trip in – it was very enjoyable and productive to see some of the more inaccessible areas of the river. Everyone caught some solid steelies using a variety of techniques and patterns that included sucker spawn, ham and eggs, prince and hare’s ear nymphs and large streamer patterns. Pending weather, we’ll likely be out on the Erie Tribs after Christmas. Have a safe and happy holiday season! Tight Lines. Pete and Tom

Daman, The answer would be both. We did a wade trip for about 6 hours in the Lower fly and did pretty well on day 1. The 2nd day we floated from Altmar to 2A and also caught fish throughout that stretch. I tend to shy away from the town fishing so we never did make it down that far. Salmon is in great shape, some really nice year classes of Steel throughout the entire system - looking forward to the rest of winter and Spring 2012!
