Floated a warm section of the breeches in my new sit on top Kayak yesterday. Caught lots of "silver trout" (fallfish, etc) and 4 smallmouths about 10 inches each. All on buggers. I'm new to the bass thing. Great fun. Can't quite figure out when to throw topwater stuff, though. The skies opened up just as we got off the water.

Smallies on top will usually shut down when the sun gets beyond the canopy, so you're looking at either early in the morning, or in the evening through dusk.

Don't rule out throwing poppers in the middle of the day.

Last week we landed one 19, 18 ,and 17" while throwing poppers into the shallows and letting it drift, giving it a pop about every 30 seconds or so.

We've noticed that when the damsels get active on the water, especially in the weedbeds, the bass are looking up.
