Was supposed to go cut wood with a guy but he cancelled till tomorrow. so I loaded up and took Odie up to a local small stream for pan fish and bass. started out with crawfish patterns, no go. went to worm pattern and started catching a few rock bass. decided to try a crawfish again. threw it up near a log and rock structure thinking I might get a small bass or panfish. saw the line moving forward on a drift and set the hook. It was no small fish but a carp about 5 lbs. Problem was I had only 4x tippet on and he took off upstream through the rocks. Yep he broke off. worked our way up a few holes and caught around 30 fish in a 1/4 mile stretch. turned around and fished back using a minnow pattern with a small gold spinner blade in front for xtra flash. caught a few perch and sun fish. saw a carp cruising in and out of the rocks when he turned and rushed the fly. never seen a carp chase a spinner before. he hit and I set the hook, he took off in the rocks and broke me off. called it a day after that. total around 40 fish all day, was a nice time and will be back again.

poor dog ran a lot of carp in the shallows plus there were ducks for him. he was worn out by 3 in the afternoon. still sleeping today. he knows we are going out in the nucanoe tomorrow.

Looks like a good day of fishing and fun with the dog. I need to take my golden out and make sure he still remembers how to swim! haha. I just got broken off by a carp the other day so know how you feel. He was in the upper 20s and I was fishing for bass... didn't mix.
