I want to take a float trip for smallies soon. Just wandering which sections are your favorites or best fishing.

bw,
I love floating the J for bass - haven't done it this year yet due to fluctuating water levels. I usually fish the Lewistown to Newport sections. There are plenty of PFBC access sites along this stretch. Really, you can't go wrong anywhere on this river. Based on my experience, the sections I frequent seem to me to have considerably fewer bass than back in the glory days in the 90s. Nevertheless, there are still a lot of big ones. The biggies are tough to catch but exciting to see. You'll get different opinions on fish populations in different sections of the river but the consensus seems to be that there are more fish upriver from Lewistown. I also fish the Raystown Branch around Everett (usually wading) and do well there too. There are a lot more bass there but they run much smaller. Good luck with your trip.
