Happy New Year, PAFF'ers!

This year try something a little different? Bluegills on your Fly Rod?

Super fun!

I learned to flyfish by catching bluegills when I was a kid. It is ALOT of fun.

I STILL DO!!! especially in the spring, when the big boys move shallow for the spawn. Crappies are also a ton of fun on a fly rod.

Why is this thread in OT?

It should be (and will be) moved to the Warmwater forum.

Like sniperfreak223, I love fishing for the big gills and crappie in the spring. Also yellow perch, white perch, green sunfish, and rock bass are all fun to fly fish for, but I think big gills fight the best(with white perch a close second). Crappie and yellow perch taste the best ;)

Rock bass don't fight at all. Wusses.

yep, that's why I've never targeted them specifically, but I do catch a ton of them when smallmouth fishing, they seem to be very fond of chartreuse sparkle grubs.

1st fish i ever caught on fly rod was a gill in 1965, still have the rod, might have ate the gill though..
