Was in OC Maryland last week with the family and beach fishing was poor. But if you guys are going down and want a good head boat , I highly recommend the Morning Star. He isn’t cheap at $100 but it was one of the best trips I have been on. We were targeting sea bass and when the Captain heard there bluefin tuna in the area he put out 5 lines and we trolled for an hour and a half. We ended up with 5 knock downs 2 hook ups but only one 40” in the boat which was split with all who wanted any. To make sure we got our sea bass fishing in he spent an extra hour and a half out at sea. Trolling with a 55’ boat isn’t cheap and he worked hard to find and keep us on the sea bass …. A good captain made for a great day.

Agreed - Morning Star is known as THE best head boat around. Capt Monty does a great job, but you pay for it. Glad you had a good time Buff.

Ok I've got a few weeks before the trip and want to be semi-prepared. So I have a few more questions.

Leaders... what size tippet/line and length? Should I worry about the toothy guys and bring some sort of wire leader?

I know people suggest a stripping basket (might make one), and some pliers that I don't mind getting rusty, but what else should I have on hand?

3'-50lb. 3'-30lb. 2'-20lb. if needed a 6" piece of 50-80 lb. mono or wire to fly for toothys. black or black/purple flies for night. korkers for jettys and rocks. I like to carry my leatherman so I can do more than just using pliers. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, pratice the double haul from now till you go !!

A tool that runs about $12 ,called the fish grip[Dicks,Cabelas] is the best thing to come along for a while.Better than the $125 Boga grip.

Headed out on Saturday. I have a few flies tied up but need to tie more. I'm pretty much settled on just tossing clousers. I don't have the time to tie too many more and those are quick and easy and catch fish.

Any other last min tips, or anyone been out towards that area and have a report?

not sure if this helps but i was nailing blues last week in the obx. still working on a report, but sunrise and incoming tides and were the best for me. clousers did the trick, just be sure to bring plenty. i almost ran out after they kept getting shredded. good luck!

ok, big question.

Where do I get a license? Can I just walk into a sporting goods store or walmart?

I'm looking at the online application, and it only lists like 6 places to get it processed. Is that true, or can I find many places to get a license when I get up there?

Also oyster bay tackle. They have two locations - one in Fenwick island and one in OC next to the greene turtle.
