Fished the east branch of the Brandywine this afternoon from about 2 to 5:30. Beautiful weather, with water temp of 70 degrees. Managed to catch the Brandywine slam--sunfish, fall fish, rock bass, and smallie. The smallie was very nice at about 13". So was the rock bass at about 10". Both caught on a leech. Got the fall fish (also about 13") on top on a hopper along with the sunnies. A lot of fun on a 4 wt.

nice. do you swing the leeches or dead drift them ?

Nice going !!! What size leech were you using?

I was swinging the leeches; they were size 8 beadheads.

I went back yesterday and fished top water exclusively--a fairly big cricket (size 6). I had a ton of takes, mostly sunfish, but most times the fly was too big for them to fit in their mouth. No big deal, I was looking for larger smallmouths. I ended up with 3.

Hopefully, the canoe/kayak/tube hatch ends this weekend, they have become an irritant.
