Went out yesterday afternoon until 7PM in hunt of the elusive Smallmouth Bass. I walked upstream from Pt. of Rocks to Lander on the Canal and entered just below Lander. I was expecting to catch some large smallies in the deep holes on the Maryland side, however that wasn't the case. The algea bloom was in full effect and made the water off color and smell horrible. I managed to pick up a few smallies here and there with an occasional sunfish. Finally, after wading for way over a mile and a half, I found the smallies stacked up and good ones too. I haven't caught smallmouth like that since the good 'ol days of the Susky around Clemson Island. So, I just want to say that the Smallmouth are alive and well. It's just a matter of finding them.

Tight Lines,

Good to hear. As you know, the Potomac is susceptible to algea blooms although they're usually cleared by now. It's a great fly rod bass river.
