Exactly! When I fished with 5 trays it didn't get in the way. 3 trays isn't even noticeable.

MKern, I really can't figure out why more flyfisherman don't use them. They are so handy and hold ALOT of flies. I use the front tray of my Downs and Richardson boxes as a work station. I carry split shot, tippet rings, my hemos, a knot tying tool and maybe an extra spool of tippet material there. I open the lid and do all my work over the tray. If I drop something it falls in the tray and not into the stream!

I've got a Richardson and couldn't live without it. Best thing I ever did. I'll never wear a vest again! 3 tray model and no, not bulky or heavy or anything of that type. Doesn't get in my way at all.

That said, to me the Down's looks almost identical. Cheaper material and not quite as attractive looking, but it does the same thing at a lower price, and the removable tray thing is a nice feature.
