Jay - According to Sage, there is no such thing as an 8'6" 5wt TCX.

nice catch H-A. I didn't even notice that one myself. Aren't the rods you got from TU were Winstons anyhow?

oh man,, my bad it is a 9' 5wt . sorry and they just changed the promo. up untill april it was the sage tcx rod and the 3800 reel.
I know the TCX is more expensive but I would really rather have a 10' 4 wt z axis.

Jay,

They changed the promo to a TCX now? Hmmm, still a $1000 to join for lifetime? I just got a TCX in 4wt and it's a pretty serious weapon. I got the Z-Axis in the fall and floated with it 2 or 3 times. I expected the rod to be quicker and firmer feeling than it was. I don't know where you'll find a 10' rod around here. You may need to look at NY, MA, CT. If you want to PM me, I'll give you information for a guy with a shop in Idaho. He's built 2 rods for me that are well done. I think he has built something like 5000 rods. For that TCX, he should give you enough credit to build any Z-Axis you want with any type of guides, reel seat, thread and handle combo. You should also have enough credit left over for a new fly line or something like that.
