Somebody got a great deal! I paid full price for my Orvis Guide pack and I love it. Will never use a vest again.

You're right docdom, somebody did get a great deal. I wanted to love this pack but it just doesn't work for me but it is definitely high quality. Thanks!

Ponner1us,

If you don't mind me asking, what didn't you like about it? I am thinking of buying one, but can't get over the perceived mental block of not having my vest. Was curious to see why you say it wasn't for you.

thanks,

Eric

Hi Eric, I got away from vests a while ago (like 10 years), and switched to a chest pack, which I really liked. My friend picked up one of these packs, I tried it on, it was really comfortable and I liked the idea of having nothing in front of me. Fishing with it was a PITA in my opinion, I wore it for a few hours on Monday, every time I needed to change flies, add tippet, add floatant, use nippers or forceps, I needed to unbuckle a strap, turn it to the front, reach awkwardly to get what I needed, etc... So a chest pack is just much easier for me to use. But a lot of people love these, it's just not my cup of tea.

I personally don't use the buckle unless I'm hiking in a long distance to my fishing spot. The buckle/strap is removable if you don't want to use it. I could see the use of the pack being severely limited if you were always buckling it.

Extremely comfortable, on your back and out of the way when not needed and easily swings around to your front when needed.

I don't use the tippet ring that came with mine. A buddy showed me how to make a tippet holder that clips onto the shoulder strap that you can easily swing around front or to your back without moving the pack.
