Thats a very good description Mute. "Dirty pink". Dont let the wetness and the trouts mouth fool ya. Thats the color it looks before you tie it on.
Starting to wonder if I really am gonna have to take a marker to some shell pink ones, but I KNOW they make this color somewhere dangit!
You know, I've never searched in a fabric/arts & craft store....

Hi Dan, I think I mentioned to you about a fabric/craft store, I have seen other stuff there that looked like it would make great fly tying material, I know what you're thinking...NO I didn't go there on my own, the wife dragged me there! I have been searching all over the internet and can't find anything either. And since you asked, your wife is awesome!!! How's MY wife?
(this oughtta generate some interesting comments from others)

I have been lurking this thread because I sympathize with the plight. Except my preference is for a pastel pink so light it is nearly white/cream/beige, yet clearly pink.

Photobucket

The ultra chenille used in the top SJW I got at FFP a few years ago.

The bottom SJW is what I prefer and I can't find anything that light anymore.

Note that I soaked these in water before photographing them.

My rational mind knows I am placing more emphasis on this than is really warranted, but my fisherman's mind knows I fish best with what I have confidence in. Unfortunately, my fisherman's mind always wins this internal debate.

I hate to disapoint... but I still think the pink chinelle from cabela's is too bright for what you want. I've seen the color you're talking about at Gander and I don't think the cabela's color is what you're looking for.

After some searching... I think the color that is closest that you need is Mauve. Here's a chenille... I'll try to find a micro.

Here's ryans color suggestion:

Why not buy some white or pink and mix a bit of blue or black dye into some pink to get the right shade. Measure your ingredients so you can duplicate the color for the next batch.

This all assumes that chenille is dyeable.

Very good job Ryguy. We just might have a winner as thats hands down the closest and I know alot of photos lack just a bit in color.
Atleast for some of our trout shots.

Ok, so the official name should be bubble gum that's been left by the walkway to the Phantoms revenge at Kennywood. Only Yinzers will get this...

If you really think the color makes that big of a difference, dye some white chenille with this (Cherry + a little Grape - see below). Real easy to do, you can achieve the exact color you want, and dye a lifetime supply.
