Some time a while back, someone posted a little info about Tirana's "Fly Fishing." He didn't like the book. I had the book, had read and had completely forgotten what it was like, so during the most recent snow, I dug it out and re-read it. It may not rank up there with the classics of fly-fishing literature, but it really was not too bad. It is a book of rambling essays, mostly about Tirana's fly-fishing experiences. Later, he devotes a chapter to three environmental cases, including the Big Blackfoot problems in the 1990s. Published in 1996, Tirana accuratedly predicted what some of today's problems would be. On p. 116, he writes, will fly-fishing "be affected by changes to the ecology; crowding on fishing waters; commercialization of the sport; the introduction to fly-fishing of persons unattuned to its spirit," and more? If you see it, it is not really a bad read. AND, it is about fly-fishing. It is not one of the now-popular attempts to sell books about marital problems, workplace problems, individual lifestyle philosophy, etc. under the guise of a fly-fishing title (eg. "Home Pool," "Streams of Consciousness"). It is not a bad way to spend a couple of hours of your reading time.
