I just found a first edition (1975) hardcover copy of "The Soft-Hackled Fly" by Sylvester Nemes. This was Mr. Nemes first book. I glanced thru it and it looks very interesting. Any flyfishers who have read the book care to comment on it? I may have to brush up on my wet-fly technique after I get a chance to set down and read it in it's entirety .

Great find,I have it (1993)and thought it was well done. Actually I've got all four of the soft hackled books of his. Get ready cause when you're done reading you're going to be tying, enjoy.

I have a few of Nemes books. I found them to be very good reads. I would think that a first printing might even be worth a little money. My favorite book on the subject of soft-hackled flies is A Guide To North Country Flies and How To Tie Them by Mike Harding. It has a good mix of history and humor, the tying instruction is great, and the pictures are very well done. It's worth a look if you like soft-hackles.

Grainy video of Nemes tying

Nemes Ties Tups Indispensible

I don't own any of his books, but I did see a fly he tied that I liked quite a bit that I haven't quite figured out how to reverse engineer.

From what I have read he fished hard and was as much a wet fly/soft hackle purist as some guys are dry fly purists.
