I'm in portland for a few weeks and I'd like to do some fly fishing while I'm out here. I didn't bring any gear so I'm looking for a guided trip. any suggestions?

I've fished Oregon quite a bit over the past 15-17 years, but never engaged a guide. Assuming you're trout fishing, you're probably going to end up in one of the two areas that are the main FF draw for the western 2/3 of the state; The Willamette/McKenzie watershed near Eugene or the Deschutes/Metolius/Cascade Lakes area around Bend.

A good reputable shop with guiding services for the former would be The Caddis Fly Shop: http://thecaddisfly.com/

For the Deschutes/Bend area, the Sun River Fly Shop: http://www.sunriverflyshop.com/

I've fished for trout and steelhead with Greg Hatten out of Eugene OR on the Willamette and McKenzie. First class guy and guide with a beautiful handmade drift boat. http://www.thewoodenboatadventures.com/

Let him know Gary Conrad referred you.

I used these guys

Cory is great to deal with and I had an exceptional trip.

I also went sturgeon fishing while I was out there. You need to try that if you can.

UI hired a guide in Welches for a day at the Fly Shop there. It was nearly 20 years though, so I don't know if the shop or guide are still there.
On subsequent trips though I found my way around easily once I had the DeLorme Gazetteer for the state. The regs. book is very good in saying what streams have what regs. and species. I believe I have a book about Oregon fishing somewhere, but I know there are guidebooks out about fishing Oregon that are very good. There's at least 1 Barnes and Noble in Portland down by the river, that should have the books you'll need.
There's fishing in the Coast Range, The Cascades, and east in the desert.

To reinforce and 2nd what Chaz said regarding books, there is one publication in particular that has been of great value to me over the 12 or so weeks I've spent fishing out there over the years. It isn't cheap, but well worth the price: http://www.amazon.com/Fishing-Central ... ond-Edition/dp/1882084136
