I did two years ago. It is a awesome camp and all I can say is TAKE EVERYTHING IN, even when you are exhausted and trying not to fall asleep in the seminars. The people there know their stuff and are there BECAUSE they know their stuff.

Also, the food is pretty darn good, as is the company.

My son did it as well. I'd highly recommend it. He also went to the North Carolina Camp. From there he's learned more about fihing than just catching them. If need a sponser let me know.

The CVTU Rivers Conservation and Youth Camp is a world class operation.

I'm planning on being there as a "ghillie" on Wed and Fri.

You asked for advice so here it is. Leave your cell phone home, bring wader patch and have fun. If you have not fly fished much let us know. You might need tippet and leader material. Tell us what you have and we'll tell you what you'll need. No matter what ...the gillies at the camp will always be there to help you out and there is a fly shop near by. I'd put out a list of what you are taking.....lets see what you have. Any other concerns just speak up.

What I am taking:

Boxes of debarbed ledless flies (self tied)
Neoprene waders
My fly pole
4,5, and 6x tipped
Multitude of leaders
Fly Tying Junk
Hat
Mulah
Nippers
Tissues
Chap Stick
Camera
Bug Net
Sun Screen.
Few things to know about me:
I don't have a cell phone. And also, I am one of few teens who will say that Facebook is stupid, a fad, and consumes wayyyy to much time.

I'd add to your list a pair of polarized sunglasses (will help you see into the water better) and maybe some small split shot sinkers for nymph fishing. You'll get some flies at the camp - the #14 peacock soft hackle is my handiwork - but you'll enjoy having more and flies you tied yourself are particularly satisfying to catch fish on.

Also, maybe bring a pair of work gloves. Typically, each youth camp group does a hands-on stream improvement project which will involve some rock rolling or maybe swinging a sledge hammer and gloves may be helpful.

I have been helping ghillie at the camp for 3-4 years now and you will have a wonderful time and like others have said take in everything you can. I look forward to meeting you and I will be ghillie every morning. If you have any further question feel free to send me a PM.

I forgot sunglasses and splitshot! I always have them in my vest so it's just something that slipped my mind. I am looking forward to meeting all you "ghillies" in person.

They will explain what a ghillie when you are there, but it was a wealthy fisherman's assistant in the 1800s. The ghillies at the camp know alot of stuff and will gladly help you in any area, dont be shy to ask.

If you have an old pair of those rubber hip boots, bring em. The stream project, at least mine, involved moving ALOT of big stones through brush and the stream. That way it doesn't matter if you poke a hole.

p.s. gaeronf, im right there with you man. Facebook and cell phones have their use, but are abused by most. When left without limitations they can make a person shallow and insociable. Thats just my opinion though.

Thank you BrookieBuster...When ever I meet someone the first two questons are: Do you have a cell phone? What's your facebook? It makes me so mad. And a lot of people at my school obsess over the darn thing. Just call them or talk to them in person!
