Had the opportunity to spend a long weekend on the upper Brule River (technically the Bois Brule) in Brule River State Forest, Northern Wisconsin.

Anyone ever fish the river, or anywhere in the North Woods? Was an incredible fishery and many large trout were landed between the 9 of us.

The upper Brule definitely lived up to it's reputation as a nighttime fishery- the chaos that erupts after dark is incredible. We threw black jointed foam mouse imitations, tied with #2 hooks. Big browns (a 26" brown was landed during the day on a yellow panther martin), rainbows, and good numbers of sizable brook trout are abundant. The river also gets a strong Steelhead run out of Lake Superior.

Looks nice, welcome aboard.

I am pondering a canoe trip right now, that's a little too far away for me though. Nice looking brookie you had there.

looks awesome beautiful coloring on the brookie hope you keep posting and welcome to the board...

Fly fisherman magazine has a nice article in it's current issue - by Matt Supinski - about Great Lakes brown trout fishing.
What really caught my eye in it though, was a piece about this river and it's dry fly fishing for those large fish.
Although I don't do much night fishing anymore, that does sound like it would be a blast.

26" browns and you come back with a photo of a pretty little brookie? More photos, please!!!!!1

Sounds like you had a nice adventure!

Go home Meiggs :pint:

all three photos are awesome.

Fished there once. My sister used to live out that way. We floated/paddled canoes--my wife and I in one and sister/her hubby in another. I broke a nice fly rod on that trip when we got our canoe tangled up in a tree (don't ask). A beauty of a spot. Never did get back there. We caught some trout--no monsters.

Brown Trout caught on size 2 black-foam jointed rodent imitation fly.

All of the hot night fishing occurred before the full moon got above the treeline, and then afterwards only in the darkest, tightest (most shaded from moonlight) areas of the stream.

This one went 21", 4 lbs. even.
