As much as I dislike the turnpike and the tolls that are charged, having just made the trip from home to Pittsburgh and back, I have to give the Commission major props for snow removal. Granted, it was not a big snow (3-5 inches), but we left Saturday morning at 6:45 when the snow was ramping up. Secondary roads were dicey at best, 283 was better but not great, but as soon as we hit the turnpike, we had mostly just wet roads. At one point, I saw something I never saw before - four plow trucks running almost in parallel. The far left truck was in the front, on the left shoulder. That truck plowed the snow into the far left lane, where the next truck plowed the snow to the middle lane, where that truck plowed the snow to the right lane, and that truck plowed it to the right shoulder. The only place we really had any snow on the roadway was between Donegal and New Stanton, where a heavy band of snow was falling. I felt like my toll dollars (for a few hours) were being spent in a way that actually benefited me.

oh yeah, the t-pike knows how to use salt!! I'll leave to go skiing in the laurels, head south on 79, it may be snow covered and sketchy, get on the t-pike in cranberry, and you can barely see from the salt dust in the air, the road is freaking DRY!! lol!!

Luckily none of my fishing requires me to take the PA turnpike. Even when my Garmin tells me to get on the turnpike to get to Erie I prefer to stay on I-80 to I-79.

I still cant believe anyone still pays cash. It saves 1.93 each way using ez pass. One 4 exit trip back and forth more or less pays for the thing. Its like my mother in law writing checks at the grocery cause thats they way she has always done it.

Hmm, there is another way?? Just kidding but up until about two years ago, before I finally got a debit card, I had been writing at least one check a week at Giant for well over ten years. It is hard to teach old dogs new tricks!

No, but if you live anywhere near Red Lion you always call the town down on Route 74 "The Brogue". I never understood that but I'm a transplant to PA from Clifton, NJ. But then people in NYC say "I'm from the Bronx" but people from the other boroughs just say "I'm from Queens, or Brooklyn, or Manhattan". No "The" added.

No but I'll probably use the TP less. It should be made a free highway, we've paid enough tolls over the years to pay it's maintenance, time to end the windfall for the TP Commission and rid the state of a useless bureaucracy! Where's Trump when you need him the most. Maybe he can work on it.

One last thing, in PA Nearly all the other Interstates in PA are free the TP should be free and could be if you get rid of the toll collectors and the TP Commission. Pay for maintenance out of Penn Dot funds. I doubt any toll collection goes to maintenance nowadays anyway.
