What determines which trout are stocked?

I tried to Google it, maybe I just wasn't using the correct phrase. Why are rainbows put in some water, browns in some, and brookies in some, or some combination? I'm guessing its based on temps, water purity and maybe food sources? Who decides which go where?

Mike can probably give you the best, final answer.

I've always believed:

1. If wild fish are present, often they'll avoid stocking the wild species to prevent too much competition between the stockies and wilds.
2. The species that the PFBC thinks will do best in the water. Temps/pH come into play, but gradient and type of holding water are perhaps more important, as all 3 species have different preferences for holding water.
