Here is an article discussing the vulnerability of Steelhead (or substitute any trout species) and common catch-and-release practices.

From my personal experiences of discovering deceased trout...many have had head injuries.

Gink and Gasoline is a great read and well worth your time if your are not familiar. I have attached the awesome photo that is associated with the article. They consistently offer great content.

As usual researches contradict each other on catch and release methods. I say always use a net, and certainly don't beach any fish you intend to release. We recently saw an article saying the opposite, I thought at the time it was crap, and still do.
Of course in PA it doesn't apply to Steelhead, because they are all stocked and will make more.

It's time to stop stocking all wild trout streams no matter what Classification they are, and time to eradicate brown trout in some of our limestone streams and re-establish brookies in them.
