I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this... Has anyone else noticed that within the last few years, the browns that have been stocked in Clarks Cr have been absolutely FUGLY?!?! Almost looks like a halfassed attempt to stock tigers in lieu of browns... At the same time, it makes it a no brainer to compare this streams stockers to the wild browns it has to offer. Minus the snipped gill plates, the stocked brookies are legit. I don't fish Stony very much, and I don't remember the browns looking like that in Wiconisco Cr from what I can remember. Also the stocker browns in Manada don't have the same markings. I will have to upload pics from my camera for everyone to know what I'm talking about i guess. However, for those of us that fish Clarks regularly should know what I'm talking about. I do appreciate the states stocking efforts, but the quality of fish in the last few years has been sub par at best in my opinion.

Ugly brown

I kind of think it looks cool. I only consider a fish ugly when you can see signs of pen raising such beat up fins from the close quartered nature of hatchery holding areas

yes that one does not look that bad imo ill have to go thru my pictures and see if I can dig some up. I know exactly what your talking about though. My dad just helped stock this weekend. He said they put alot of rainbows in. Last year I saw so many mutated fish it was crazy both from the state stocking and the nursery. Honestly I wish they'd stop stocking it all together.

Here's one from a few years ago....

That first pic looks more like a freaky tiger trout. Although I've never seen a tiger trout with a red spot (or any red for that matter) on it like that one has. I think most stockers are very bland, which is one of the reasons I don't fish for them.

Compared to some sideways swimming stockies I've seen with googley/missing eyes, wasted fins, and a general sickly demeanor, I would classify those two as beauties!

I think its nice looking. Kind of looks like it could be a tiger.

Looks like a tiger trout to me with all of those vermiculations. Tim Robinson....I said vermiculations ;-) I've seen quite a few hatchery tiger troots and they vary greatly.

It's a tiger for sure..

They look fine to me. Ive been fishing Clarks for about 27 years and haven't noticed any big difference.

I would put my money on both of those fish posted being holdover brown trout. The second had translucent amber fins that don't show up until in the stream feeding on forage rather than fish meal. The first is a "weird brown" as was the consensus crom the linked thread.

AppArently being a tiger trout is like being pregnant, you cant be a little bit tiger. So if it is the black spoting that has your panties in a bunch it can be attributed to the genes responsible for the black spots.

Now i am looking at this on a. I phone so i may have a diff opine once i get home.

Nevertheless i say holdover for both

It's not a tiger. It's just a different spot pattern for browns that has been coming out of the hatcheries in the past few years. Good link to a discussion we had before in mountainbrookies's post.

Going to say brown for both. I like the "wormy brown" look on the first fish. I would be happy with either of those. ;)

I'm fairly certain the 1st pic is a brown. Caught about a half dozen that looked that way after the recent stocking this past weekend. Also caught a holdover last weekend prior to the stocking that had the same look to it. The second picture was more or less a reference as to how the browns looked prior to the last few years.

They are great looking fish if you ask me

I have caught a few on Clarks that are quite torn up.

and the place the first one came out of makes it seem wild as well.
