Right, speed depends on where you are fishing and why you are fishing. On a stream that you have fished end to end before, stop at the places that seemed the best, why go fast? When you want to reach distant sections of a stream you have only fished at lower levels before, have to walk right by great looking holes.

I agree with afish, that park and appreciate speed is nice, and I should use it more often. I often have a tastycake (70 cal angel food, if possible) in case..

No tastycakes for me on stream, but I sometimes remove my vest, pull my tweed sportcoat and pipe from the back pocket, put them on and light up some fine tobacco as I sit on a log and watch/rest a hole. If you find small "benches" on the shore made from a fairly flat log propped up on either end by stones or stumps, you know that I have found your hole and like it very much.

I am fine with tweed coat and pipe along stream, but if anyone does happen along, this spectacle may not do much to reduce the sometimes elite image of fly fishing. :) I should stop and take more pictures out there, hopefully there will be an included image here of a great brookie stream. It is the kind of place with no trail, steep grade, rhodo or laurels, where I like to fish a pool, hike to the another pool, and fish again...

please don't put a bunch of green and red lines on my picture :)

In compliance with your request, I did not put any lines on your photo.

Jack, by the time you made all of those casts I'd be 1/4 mile upstream. That nice pool would get 3 casts, maybe four. Then I'd be on my way. To each his/her own. Oh k-bob, is that stream in Carbon Co by chance? It looks eerily familure.

Yeah, looks like a great stream, not sure I'd really fish it often as it seems like more work than I care to put into fishing anymore. You young bucks can have all that rock-climbing, boulder jumping.

Frankie, the god..what an oxymoron statement that is. He prances around a bunch of other sites splaying his greatness, but when challenged by me three times he would not come, but then challenged me,but for money per fish. Hmmm take me to his stream, probaly near brothers house, and money fish,,hmm set up anyone. His numbers are outrageous and on google article he was caught using picture of same trout over and over in his count,at a seminar. I told him to put up or shut up about going to a gathering. Guess what,he said NO,BECAUSE PEOPLE WILL EXPECT ME TO CATCH FISH! that is a quote from a pm that was sent. So all you Frankie lovers, you have been duped, you mindless fools......oh ya those supermodels were hot, hope ya write a book about them

I had a long response prepared to the original question but the system would not let me post it for some reason. So this is the short version. I count every trout I catch. Have from the beginning. Tight Lines to Everbody!

aww heck - just for the record. I can't help myself from keeping track...don't know why though. I don't care too much...and I lose track pretty quickly..usually between 8 and 10.

I posted a responce earlier, but I'll add that while I do keep track of fish, I only mention the "legal" size trout I caught on a given stream. I don't keep track of sub-legal fish.

And I have NO idea of what masteroffish is talking about. Especially considering it's his second post on here?
