How about these past 2 years for a comparison how weather conditions change the timing of insect emergence. A super early, super warm spring last year followed by the coldest March since who knows when.

Things change. None of it matters to the fish or bugs. They will be there. It may not fall in to our timeline but they don't care about that. Be there when the hatches are. That is about all we can do. Air temp, water temp.... Our temp. it's all still going to happen. Just try and be there.

And in 2011, the streams were very high all spring. We rarely seem to have "normal" weather anymore.

Things would be a lot easier if I didn't have to work for a living!

I think DFG is right about "normal" weather. And, he has it figured out about water conditions being a determining factor about how the fishing is during hatches. Seems that the sulphurs bring on high water a lot of years!
According to my notes, things are about 3 to 4 weeks behind last year around here, at least. I wonder if the BFO's grannoms will even be on the water by gobbler season.

Every year has varying factors, some years certain factors are more influential than others. I don't buy into the whole, we don't have normal weather anymore thing. I think this year was pretty normal, march is supposed to be cold. You just have to look at what nature gives you and rely on your experience and instincts to make the best decision, its all part of the fun!
