Not sure if this is the place or not to post this, but here goes.....

I'm looking for a place in Tampa, FL to do some fly fishing. I'll be down there for work for a few days, and might have time in the mornings or evenings to get a few casts in. Let me know if anyone knows of place to fish down there. Have a 6wt St. Croix, and some bugs for bass fishin up here.

Thanks!
Brent

Park next to the bridge on 35th(Pinellas Bayway). Go under bridge and wade in the shallows to your left, fishing the deeper channel as well as the mangrove at the edges. Don't go alone or at night. You may want to get a 7 or 8 weight, as a bull red or a large spec will make a 6 weight explode. Use chartreuse clousers. All will be well.

yeah-nix the 6
also if there are snook or blues around-20 pound tippet min. or you will be buying a lot of $3 flies.Teeth and gills can be very sharp.

Tampa Bay or the Gulf?
Fort Desoto park is a good place to fish and easy access.Fred Howard Park in Tarpon Springs, easy access to grass flats.

Yeah-went to Cedar keys this fall-took a boat tour-finally saw what they meant by grassy flats and deep pockets-the gulf is another world-

If you're looking for bass, you should be able to find some in some of the retention ponds that are almost everywhere. If you're looking for some saltwater action, and you're going to be there during the winter. You may want to check out the outflow from the Anclote Power plant in Tarpon Springs. There is a warm water discharge there that attracts a lot of different fish from the much colder Gulf. Trout, Permit, Pompano, and Reds, with mostly Ladyfish and Jacks. You will have shore fishing access there and a fishing pier. There is also section of flats just north of the pier. Take your waders if you can. This is mainly a cold weather fishery, if you are going there in the spring, after the Gulf start to warm, you may want to fish elsewhere. If you are wading, watch out for Stringrays. Slide or shuffle your feet across the bottom, don't take steps.

1 fish, the power plant is off line a lot so the canal is cold. When it was running it was a hot spot for sure.
Check Tampa Angler flyshop 813-734-2497.
glass minnow patterns are a good choice as well as Crazy Charlies and Clousers.

Thanks everyone. No sure how much i'll get out, it is a work trip :-( that being said, i'll pack the rod and some flies.
