Question:

Is there a correlation between the decline in present day civility and the rise in "popularity" for nymph fishing?...I for one see parallels...

been to State College lately? Lol

LOL.

Yeah, I definitely think so.

I have seen the same correlation with the rise of graphite rods and synthetic dubbing!

I prefer the correlation between the fall of silk fly lines and the rise in invasive species of insects.

shakes fist, GET OFF MY LAWN YOU DARN KIDS!

Is there a correlation between the full moon and the zaniness of the posts on here? Further research is needed!

If you really put a lot of stock in tradition, wet flies are much more traditional than dries.

no porn please

as Sir Charles would say

"Anything Less is Uncivilized"

"dry fly guy with nose in the air"

its all in the casting and circles in the water

jayl seems there are synthetics with chicks also

unweighted wet flys or nymphs will be tolerated

BARELEY

BEADS or Weighted

PLLEEEEEEAAAAASSSSSEEE

destroys the beauty of the casting stroke and beautifully formed loops

The fly should gently settle on the surface

not with a PLOP

like a freakin pellet fly (that is the only way they work)

back n the old days I used to nymph fish at the My O My Bar

That explains a lot of our opinions, Dick. I prefer to fish with a dumbbell eyed muddler, those dries don't roll cast for a crap. :p

Boyer

ya can't roll cast with graphite

the fly has zip to do with a roll cast

Disagree. :-D

I believe the lack of tweed jacketed gentleman on the Little Lehigh has directely contributed to the end of civilization as known to all by Halford. Of course, Jim Leisenring is the exception.
Coughlin :)

tweed is my favorite color, depending on the cicular rod composite you can roll cast. But glass and bamboo to me roll cast a lot better and were designed to do so.

Agreed, even better with a DT line...

Well tweedy Dee, it's nymphing for me! :-D

Seriously, I appreciate every aspect of the craft involved with fly fishing. But to say nothing but dries is fly fishing is like saying we should also do it by arriving on horseback, (Which I also enjoy) If fly fishing turns into a book burning, I'm going to buy a spinning rod and a can of worms.

I really see the beauty in the dry fly and you can definitely enjoy it streamside by me without the fear that I'll drop a nymph anywhere near you. I think it's called plain being courteous and respectfull. A bigger topic which I have dealt with way too much this week.

40 years of flyfishing and never found a need for roll casting.
or tweed
but then I mostly night fished and only a few skunks and real nite owls to impress.lol

I think I said in the dry fly thread that I really enjoy dry fly fishing. I don't understand why there is any reason for animosity between dry fly and nymph fishermen.

IMHO, nymph fishing probably does take more skill. Maybe I feel that way because I never developed those skills fully to be confident in them.

I did fish nymphs and did well with them at times. I don't recall it affecting my demeanor or mood.
