My daughter, visiting from California, wanted to learn how to fly fish. Her mom lives on the West Branch of the Brandywine, so I considered fishing there for smallmouth and whatever else you catch in that stream. I decided that, if you really want to learn, we'll fish Valley. We went today.

I didn't fish and just tried to help her through it. First time ever, lo and behold, she picked it up pretty quickly. Caught seven in four hours including 13 and 14 inchers. She named one "Mike".

I tried to get a shot of the 14 incher but it squirmed out of her hand as I was getting ready to take the picture. Yes, she landed and released them herself. Was I proud? Certainly, but probably more in shock at her success!!!!!

Have some pics, but can't seem to add them.

Thanks David. Probably most fun I've ever had fishing. Any help with adding pictures? Tried the upload thing but didn't work. They may be too large.

Congrats!

Wish I could have been there to see the smiles I'm sure were on both of your faces!

(If you still need help resizing the pictures, I can try to help with that.)

The first and only time I took my daughter FFing, she caught a stick. Video to follow. Congrats to your daughter, on the serious side.

Thanks Jack. She did catch more than a few "sticks".....on the bottom and on the banks. Maybe the most important thing I taught her was patience. Lose a fly, lose your tippet.....don't sweat it. Take your time and tie on new ones.

Djs.....any help with the pictures would be appreciated.

You must have been ready to burst, what a great day. Bet she was smiling ear to ear, dad as well. Congratulations to both of you.

Congrats John. I know how satisfying it is as an uncle and it must be 10 times that as a dad.

If you don't want to deal with shrinking the file sizes and stuff like that, just upload them to www.imgur.com and post the links here. Sounds like a good day. Wish I caught 7 trout on my first day fly fishing, or even first couple of years for that matter.

Wait a second, did you just spot burn Valley Creek? I need a ruling on that, Fade.

Joking of course. Nice story.
