This is neat.... Hopefully something can be done to keep them around.

"7,000 pairs "

They are like pigeons in the Northwest. I have trouble believing that number.

I hope they stick around in Philly. Kinda like that story of the redtailed hawk that lives in NYC.

Don't let Joe Banner here about this. He may consider cutting Swoop the mascot to save some room under the cap

I've read about that hawk.

Here at drexel, we had a hawk last summer. It was fascinating. I actually watched him stalk and catch a mouse outside the library right alongside market street.

lol...

Hey, given the Spikes move last night, I'm not gonna complain any more. If bunkley steps it up this year, they are going to be a very very good team.

I frequently go to NYC, that's one reason I have such disdain for the place. I don't think the RT hawk in central park is all that unusual, over the years I've probably seen over a dozen of them and a few accipiters and a few kestrels too. Lord knows there are plenty of rats and mice for these predators to eat. I actually saw a nest on the side of a building near the GW Bridge once, and have seen a few R T's driving along the Cross Bronx EPW. Along the coast there are peregrine falcons, and peregrines have been nesting on all the Delaware River bridges for at least 10 years.

As for eagles I think it's great. A couple of years ago there was a pair at Tinicum March Refuge I seem to remember a nest being there, that would be just outside the city, so it doesn't surprise me there is a new nest. What surprises me is that it's been so long and that we didn't see them sooner. The recovery effort has worked wonders.
