I just finished my 3 weeks of Antibotics, for my lyme disease with no change in my symptoms. I had a follow up with my Doctor, Im afraid he doesn't know as much as I do about the disease, which ain't much.

Does anyone know of a good Doctor or can give me some advice!

Please email me if you can help!

Paul:

I would find an infectious disease specialist in your area. If your current doc does not have the cure move on to another. I left my doctor of 10 years for a new guy because of his inability to help me. Went to the new guy and he refered me to the right guy. Now I am almost 100 again after two years of hell.

My point is that the new guy may know something or someone that will help you.

Don't know anything about it, but wish you a speedy recovery, I would search the www for info. HAPPY NEW YEAR

Paul,
Bruno is right. I had a friend almost lose his hand because his doc misdiagnosed what he had.
Even if you have to travel to go see a specialist out of you area it is worth it.

Paul,

You need to see a specialist in Infectious Disease or Neurology with experience treating Lyme Disease. If you don't trust your physician to refer you then maybe you can try other avenues to get a referal.

Sorry I don't know anyone out in your area Paul.

Paul,

I would suggest contacting Hershey Medical Center's Department of Neurology. I do a lot of business with them professionally and I know that each physician specializes in individual disorders (1 doc for epilepsy, 1 doc for ALS, 1 doc for migraine, etc.) That way the docs are seeing case after case of the same disorder and have become experts in their respective field.

They will most likely have someone in the department that can give you an evaluation.

If one stays alive, they can spent years being treated by doctors that do not know what they are doing. But, if the patients have the right doctors treating them, these doctors will probably know in a matter of minutes to a day or two what is wrong and the best way to treat the disease.

Bruno and Lostboy are right on target.

Hershey is really great from what I have seen and heard. Johns Hopkins would be another great place to contact. l

Guys
Thanks for the advice!

I did make a few phone calls yesterday. I called Hershey, they will have someone call me back. I also called the Cumberland Co. health dept. and they gave me some names of a few Doctors that could be some help to me. they also gave me some names of some I.D. Doctors.

Thanks

I think this demonstrates why they call it "practicing" medicine. I hope you get this thing taken care of, Paul.

Paul

I hope you find somebody that can help you get this thing kicked.
Keep in touch it looks like a very good week of fishing starting this weekend. Take Care

Paul,

I definitely agree with the others that you need to find a specialist, someone with a lot of knowledge and experience with Lyme disease.

Online, I found the following info about the York Lyme Disease Support Group.
http://www.lymenet.org/SupportGroups/UnitedStates/Pennsylvania/York.shtml

They should be able to recommend the best doctors in your area for treating Lyme disease.

A friend of mine has Lyme disease. He found a support group helpful. He is being treated, and it didn't happen overnight, but over time his health has improved a great deal.

Best wishes,
Troutbert

Paul’s post had me thinking about my dealings with doctors over the past two years. I have changed my approach in dealing with doctors. I have started treating doctors the way they should be treated, as your employee. You are basically hiring them to provide you a service. If they do not provide that service to your satisfaction fire them.

I also have become very demanding when dealing with them. I discovered that this approach as worked better for me than any other. Often I think that people put all of their faith in a doctor and their skills and listen to them blindly. I know this is obvious, but it took me a long time to change my approach. I also have started taking my medical records with me to the doctor. I keep a file of every prescription and procedure and I make sure that the doctor reviews it when I visit them.

I learned all of this the hard way and spent two years suffering because I did not take control of my situation. Once I did take control things improved dramatically. My health improved and as a result my entire life improved.

Good luck Paul.

Paul,

Glad to hear that you got the ball rolling. Good Luck!
