A few more. Thanks to Keith. I usually don't get my ugly mug in the pictures!

Unforgiven, you mean the fisherman or the fish?

Someone asked if these fish were wild. I assume the combination of the size and the color "spawned" this question.

Looking through these pictures, there is definitely a unique coloration to these brookies. Anyone have any thoughts on why this is? I know a lot has to do with food supplies and whatnot. These fish are uniquely "pink", I'd say!

Commie brookies.

Maybe more olive and yellow. There's SOMETHING about them, color wise, that isn't usually seen on PA brookies.

The yellow spots are on the large side and go pretty low on the body, encroaching upon the white stomach.

Definitely. It's distinct, isn't it? The bigger boys are lighter in color. I wonder what about their environment gives them this distinct look. Diet, lighting, the spring influence of the headwaters?

Squatch, the southeast PA Brookies I've caught look similar to yours, with the lighter stomach color, and NC PA Brookies look different, with darker reds and more vibrant colors. Maybe it's a regional thing? Just an idea.

Some of the pink spots were NEON pink. Really beautiful.

ya, well the stream was pretty big and I saw what looked to be a standard TU improvement project on it which made me think a DaLO and holdover brookies. but the small ones now made me think definite wild

Starvin-TU hasn't TOUCHED that stream. Our local chapter doesn't want anything to do with it. "No one cares about catching 10" brookies" I believe was their response to a former regular board member here when he brought up restoring it.

So be it. The stream, despite the neglect, is thriving-at least fish wise. I used to think that it needed work to thrive. The fish think otherwise, I guess. It could use a little more structure (a lot more in some places), and some bank stabilization, but the fish keep coming and growing-as you can see. It's an ATW. It gets stocked with rainbows (no more browns, but the wild ones are there now), and to my knowledge was never stocked with brookies.

Those improvements were actually put in place by a fishing club back in the 60s. The stream is wide in some spots, but shallow. You can see in some of the shots that the banks are deteriorating. Still, it's spring fed in its head waters and stays fishable year 'round. The brookies have a nice long growing season, plenty of food with great hatches and tons of bait fish, and apart from a few weeks at the beginning of trout season, it's relatively untouched by anglers, especially where Keith and I fished. The ones who fish up there are mostly guys like us, Swattie, Sal, etc. and we catch and release.

You'll notice too, all these fish are chunky. No big-head-thin-body brookies. All very healthy, well fed fish.

Don't forget gfig, homie!
I was there last night, brookies and brownies rising like always especially in the riffles. then night time came and i decided to fish with a nymph -- and all those fish at the old dam that seem to never bother with anything, started to hit my nymph to no end. big too!

excited to fish these waters in the fall....and see how it differs from the rest of the seasons.

i have tons of brookie pics andy but still catching those browns....
