Dr. Robert "Bob" Behnke passed away last month at his home in Fort Collins CO. Many of us came to know Behnke through his articles in Trout and other magazines that solidified his reputation as the country's leading authority on salmonids. Known by friends and admirers as "Dr. Trout," Behnke was a professor at the University of Colorado and was widely regarded in the fly fishing world as something of the final authority on trout species and their distribution. Among my favorite books is Behnke's Trout and Salmon of North excellent resource and reference book on everything you ever wanted to know about the different trout and salmon, their habits, and what they look like. I never met Bob - wish I did - but others have told me of his friendly and accessible personality.

The trout fishing community has lost its leading expert on trout and salmon.

nowhere is so sweet, as the bosom of the vale where the bright waters meet.
