I have a problem...

Ok, so I've been fly fishing for about a year or so now. I'm getting more knowledgable every day but am running into a stumbling block when it comes to hatches. I'm learning what "flies" are what, but have trouble recognizing the real thing when I'm fishing. Is there a site or listing of the real bugs associated with hatches that I could go to? I've seen a few recently that i've attempted to copy on the vise, but would rather know exactly what it is so I can look at other recipies. Mainly because I'm so novice. Any help is welcome!

This site has a listing for many many different patterns to tie and also has insect ids on it. When I started getting curious of the bugs hatching I bought a book with the different pictures of the bugs and would take it with me and try to figure out what I was looking at. I got a book from Orvis last year when I rejoined TU last that was a pocket guide to insects and I carry that with me all the time, especially when looking at nymphs, thats the one that can get a bit confusing.

Try to get hatch charts for the streams you are fishing. This gives a short description, size, color, and name of the bugs as well as the times you can expect to see them. Also, you can make sure nobody is looking and galavant around like an idiot chasing bugs to get a better look. With caddis, I almost always end up doing this to figure out what body color they are.
